Went to Housing today. Three weeks ago Tuesday, Michael turned in our memo for Exception to Policy. Three weeks I've waited for an answer. Battalion gave them a 2-week ultimatum. They went a week over. Our answer was way overdue. After waiting in the...well, the waiting area for about 20 minutes, my name was called and I went back to see the rep. I went in not expecting to be granted approval for private rental, so that denial wasn't a shock. As of July 2008, moving from government leased housing to private rental is no longer allowed. You can move from gov't to gov't, private to private, and private to gov't, but not vice versa. If we'd gotten private rental when we first got here in '06, we'd be fine to move to another private rental. (Talk about 20/20...) In a nutshell, we've been kinda pre-approved to move into another government leased apartment. Because the memo specifically requested private, it has to be formally denied. When I get that letter in the mail, then I go back to Housing and put our name on the waiting list. By the time we get near the top of the list to go look for a new place, Michael should be back home to go with us. So that's a start, and it's a silver lining. Top priorities/requirements will be low noise level, proximity to Post, and space for Jericho, not necessarily in that order. I'm still disappointed in Housing's policies because they just don't make sense to me, but I'm keeping a smile on my face because it's something, and that's better than a flat-out NO.
I think maybe the Army should change its logo from a gold star to a double-edged sword.
Dana,
ReplyDeleteHousing is the pits. We've had our share of dealing with them and have not one nice thing to say about them.
You may also consider proximity to a bus line as this will give you a bit more freedom to get around. Just an idea.
I'm enjoying reading your blog.
