1. I have plane tickets to NC. Jericho and I fly out February 5th, and since Michael's "target" R&R date has changed, it looks like the birthday party in NC will be the weekend of the 13th. I've talked to my dad, and the plan is to have one party at my mom's for her/my stepdad's family, and one at my dad's for his family. I am making the birthday cakes, and since printing/ordering party invites would get to the guests too late, I'm trying to come up with another creative way to invite everyone. We'll also have a party while we're in Iowa so that Michael and his family can celebrate with us, too! I have an ache in me that won't go away until we're home; I'm so ready to be surrounded again.
2. Jericho is speaking more plainly now. Saturday morning, I went into his room to get him and when I walked in, I found him sitting in his crib wearing only a t-shirt and a diaper. He'd taken his pants off and was working on getting them back on his legs. I sat down on the floor by his bed, asking him what he was doing, and when I told him he was funny, he looked up at me with those enormous blue eyes and said, "You funny." My heart melted right then and there! We're working on counting to ten, colors and being gentle with things that should be handled with care, like Mommy's hair.
3. A few friends and I went to the winery in Vo this afternoon, and since it's been several months since I've been, I'd forgotten how much I love their wine. I stocked up on Serprino, Marzemino, Moscato Dolce and Fior D'Arancio, some of which I'll be taking home with me to share. We sat at a huge wooden round table and chatted, snacking on bread, Asiago cheese, olives and speck. Villa Sceriman is a perfect place to join people you know and get out of a rut with good food and conversation.
4. Burger King now has Iced Mocha. I just discovered this about 5 days ago, and I've already had 3. I'm not ashamed.
5. The days here are going by very slowly without Michael. I've gotten to talk to him on Yahoo a couple of times a week, but we're trying to save more money during this deployment so phone calls are limited. If that's the only conversation I get, though, I'll take it...there are wives here who haven't heard from their husbands yet. I still consider myself lucky.
6. I have a wooden dresser in my garage that I've been working on, stripping the paint and getting it ready for a makeover. It was one I grew up with, and I've always known that one day it would belong to my children. Since Jericho doesn't have a decent dresser, I'm working hard to get this project done so that his room is one step closer to looking like an actual kid's room. My plan for now is to find red, yellow and blue paint and some Dr. Seuss character-themed pull knobs to make it perfect! I have yet to take a "before" picture, but that's coming soon. I definitely can't wait to see how it looks when it's done!
7. I'm almost finished reading/listening to The Lovely Bones. Please go read it, if you haven't yet. It will stir something up in you that you can't explain. I saw the movie but it doesn't do the book justice. Next up is The Shack.
So that's all that's going on with me right now. Not the most exciting post ever, I know. But mundane is better than bad, right?
i thought it was a great post Dana!
