I got his bag together - 2 diapers, travel wipes and a change of clothes - and set it by the door while he was asleep. When naptime was over, I casually let him know the afternoon's plans. When he heard the words "play school," his face lit up like Christmas in August and he was ready to get up now!
He happily held my finger as we walked to the CDC (Child Development Center), signed him in, and went to his classroom. He'd just missed snacktime, which is ok because we had snacks on the way to Post anyway. During some of his reserved spots next week, he'll be there to enjoy snacks as well. He gave me a hug, a goodbye kiss and waved at me as he walked over to check out some books. Most moms would feel their heart breaking as their child walked away as if it were no big deal....I don't. I feel better this way because it means I don't have to worry about how long he cried after I left, whether or not his teachers can help him settle down, or if he's even having a good time. He looks forward to going, so much so that I have to wait to tell him he's going to playschool that day until we're about to get in the car to leave. I love that he loves "school" already.
But it does break my heart that he's so big so soon.
I agree that it's much, much easier when they walk confidently away from you. The crying and clinging bit is torture.
