Welcome to the Longest Week Ever.
Since we got back to Oklahoma last Saturday (the 12th), we've had exactly two days to relax and enjoy some family time. The day after we got home was spent unpacking and doing laundry, grocery shopping and talking about holiday plans. Michael went back to work that Monday, his first day as an official Drill Sgt, and I already hate it. I had been warned about how grueling his work schedule would be, and that I'd never get to see him, but I guess it never really registered with me until he got home some time around 9 pm that night, exhausted but glad his first day was over. A quick dinner followed, and we put Jericho to bed late. I lay in bed that night wondering how Jericho and I were going to handle the next two years.
The only change in this schedule all week was my anatomy scan/gender determination ultrasound on Thursday evening. He did get a quick break to meet me at the hospital, but at 6:30 when the appointment was over, he still had to go back to work.
It's been tough on Jericho, too. All of us, really. He asks me where Daddy is a few times a day, and sometimes asks if we can go see him. It breaks my heart to tell him we can't because Daddy's working and doesn't get to take a break. When Michael finally does get home, he's so tired from the early mornings and late evenings, he fights to stay awake til bedtime.
In this short week, we have learned to really cherish our Sundays and make the most of that time together. I let Jericho have Michael all to himself and kind of step back, because I feel like Jericho needs that time a little more than I do right now. I'm not sure how we'll handle this schedule when the baby comes, but I'm looking forward to those ten days Michael will have off work for paternity leave.
